The view from level 124 is the one everybody knows, and it earns the reputation. On a clear afternoon you can follow the coast past the Palm and out toward Jebel Ali, and at dusk the whole grid of the city lights up underneath you in about fifteen minutes.
A timed slot means you walk past the ticket desk and into the lift queue. The lift itself takes about a minute. There is no time limit once you are up there, so most people stay somewhere between forty minutes and an hour and a half.
Sunset slots sell out first, usually a week or more ahead in the cooler months.

Arrive fifteen minutes before your slot. Entry is through the lower ground floor of Dubai Mall, follow signs for At The Top. Large bags are not permitted on the deck.

Arrive within thirty minutes of your slot and you will usually still be admitted, though you may wait. Beyond that the ticket is not guaranteed.

No, level 148 is a separate premium product with its own lounge and a much smaller capacity.
